LONDON, United Kingdom — Samsung Electronics and Checkout.com have announced an expanded global payments partnership that will bring Checkout.com's processing technology to more of Samsung's digital businesses while opening a new route for online merchants to accept Samsung Pay.

The agreement covers Samsung's online retail and app-commerce operations, with Checkout.com set to extend its support to additional markets in Europe and North America. The companies also plan to make Samsung Pay available through Checkout.com's Flow payment integration beginning October 31.

The partnership addresses two parts of the digital payments business: the infrastructure behind Samsung's own transactions and the payment methods offered by other merchants. It also reflects the increasing importance of reliable payment processing as technology companies sell products and services across multiple markets.

Checkout.com already processes payments for Samsung Gulf Electronics, supporting purchases made through Samsung.com in the Middle East and North Africa. The new agreement extends that existing relationship to additional Samsung digital-commerce operations.

Under the expansion, Checkout.com will support payment activity across Samsung.com and the Galaxy Store in European Union and North American markets.

The two platforms serve different parts of Samsung's business. Samsung.com handles direct online sales of devices and other products, while the Galaxy Store distributes apps and digital content. Both require payment systems capable of handling transactions across different currencies, banking networks and regional requirements.

Checkout.com will provide payment processing and acquiring capabilities, alongside technology designed to improve transaction performance. Acquiring services help merchants accept and process card payments, while payment optimization tools attempt to reduce avoidable transaction failures.

The arrangement gives Samsung access to a broader set of payment services as it expands its digital operations.

A separate part of the agreement focuses on making Samsung Pay available to businesses that use Checkout.com's Flow platform.

Samsung Pay is scheduled to become available through Flow on October 31. Flow is Checkout.com's payment integration product, which allows merchants to offer supported payment methods through an online checkout interface.

The integration is intended to give merchants another digital wallet option for website and in-app purchases. Checkout.com says the arrangement could help merchants reach Samsung's large Galaxy smartphone user base.

Samsung Pay allows customers to make purchases using payment cards stored in Samsung Wallet. Its web checkout system enables shoppers to initiate payments through a desktop or mobile browser and authorize transactions securely on their smartphones.

That process offers an alternative to manually entering card details during checkout. Its availability, however, depends on factors including merchant integration, supported payment cards and applicable technical requirements.

Samsung will also use Checkout.com's Intelligent Acceptance technology, an artificial intelligence-powered system designed to optimize payment processing.

The technology analyzes transaction data to determine how payments should be handled, including decisions involving authentication, transaction routing and attempts to recover eligible declined payments.

Payment failures can occur even when customers have sufficient funds and intend to complete a purchase. Differences between banking systems, authentication requirements and card issuer responses can complicate transactions, particularly for businesses operating internationally.

Checkout.com's system is designed to identify opportunities to improve payment acceptance by adjusting parts of the processing flow. Samsung's adoption of the technology indicates that the companies intend to address payment performance alongside the expansion of supported markets and payment methods.

The Samsung agreement comes as Checkout.com continues expanding its relationships with large international merchants.

In its October 19 announcement, Checkout.com said it serves more than 1,700 enterprise merchants and has reached $750 million in annualized net revenue, representing 28% year-over-year growth. The company also reported that its U.S. payment processing volume had increased by more than 120% year to date.

Checkout.com also identified Microsoft, Spotify and Best Buy among companies with which it has announced partnerships. Its relationship with Samsung adds another major consumer technology business to its enterprise customer base.

Samsung Executive Vice President Woncheol Chai said: “As Samsung continues to build connected digital experiences for customers around the world, we need payment infrastructure that is flexible, reliable and ready to scale across markets. Our partnership with Checkout.com will support that ambition, helping us create a more consistent foundation for digital commerce and bring Samsung Pay to more merchants through Flow.”

Antoine Nougué, Chief Revenue Officer at Checkout.com, added: “Samsung is one of the world’s most innovative technology companies, and we’re proud to support its digital commerce ecosystem through this global partnership. By combining our acquiring capabilities with Intelligent Acceptance and Flow, we’re helping Samsung build greater flexibility into its payments infrastructure while giving merchants more choice in how they accept payments.”

The first scheduled milestone is October 31, when Samsung Pay is expected to become available through Flow.
