New York — Global crypto payments and stablecoin infrastructure company MoonPay is pursuing a strategic collaboration with Dunamu, the operator of South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, covering stablecoin payments, corporate treasury management and the expansion of Dunamu’s GIWA blockchain.
The two companies will jointly identify new business opportunities in stablecoin-based global payments and fund movement, and in corporate finance and treasury management. They plan to combine MoonPay’s global financial services and network with Dunamu’s technology and business capabilities, including GIWA.
On payments, the companies will review a range of cases in which digital assets can be used for cross-border payments and fund transfers, drawing on both companies’ technology and infrastructure. They will also examine the business potential of new financial service models.
The second area is global corporate finance and treasury management. MoonPay and Dunamu will jointly review ways to apply digital asset-based financial infrastructure to corporate finance and treasury operations, and identify related business opportunities and usage models.
Expanding the GIWA ecosystem is the third. By linking MoonPay’s global services and network with Dunamu’s blockchain infrastructure, the partners aim to increase overseas market access for services and assets within the GIWA ecosystem. They will also explore ways to broaden access to GIWA-based services and digital assets and strengthen the ecosystem’s global connectivity.
Bugeon Lee, Head of APAC at MoonPay, said: "For stablecoins to function as global financial infrastructure, it is important to have the technology and network to support not only cross-border payments and fund transfers, but also the real financial operations of businesses. By combining Dunamu's blockchain capabilities with MoonPay's global financial infrastructure, we will explore new possibilities for digital assets and work together so that the GIWA ecosystem can expand into global markets."
Dunamu, which launched Upbit in October 2017, as an Ethereum-based layer-2 blockchain in September 2025. GIWA was unveiled at the Upbit Developer Conference in Seoul and includes the GIWA Chain, built on Optimistic Rollup technology, and the GIWA Wallet.
The collaboration follows the launch of MoonPay Korea on September 29, alongside partnerships with KakaoBank, Woori Bank and KB Financial Group to bring stablecoin payments and digital asset services to the region. MoonPay Korea will lead local service development and serve as a base for the company’s expansion across Asia.
MoonPay has also worked on stablecoin issuance elsewhere. In December 2025, Exodus said the digital dollars for its wallet would be created and managed by MoonPay through M0’s stablecoin infrastructure, fully backed by U.S. dollar deposits on a one-to-one basis.
Founded in 2019, MoonPay serves more than 35 million customers in 180 countries and more than 1,500 enterprise clients across crypto and fintech. The company and Dunamu plan to firm up the technical and commercial potential in their three main areas of collaboration and to keep identifying new business opportunities that draw on both companies’ strengths.
