Egypt’s Bank NXT plans to move its ATM and debit card portfolio to Network International’s processing platform under an extension of their existing collaboration. The project targets the infrastructure supporting those services as the bank continues its technology overhaul.
The announcement says the migration is intended to improve operational efficiency, strengthen security controls and support customer service.
Tamer Seif El-Din, CEO and Managing Director of Bank NXT, said: “Our collaboration with Network International is a cornerstone of Bank NXT’s strategy to modernize our payments infrastructure and better serve our customers. Migrating our debit card and ATM portfolio to Network’s robust processing platform will enable us to achieve greater operational efficiency, introduce innovative services faster, and ultimately, provide a seamless, secure, and digitally advanced banking experience. This collaboration reaffirms our commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to drive our strategic expansion and meet the evolving needs of the Egyptian market, contributing significantly to the nation's digital transformation.”
Dr. Reda Helal, Group Managing Director – Processing, Africa & Growth Markets at Network International, added: “We are excited to work alongside Bank NXT, especially as the nation continues its digital transformation journey. This collaboration underscores our commitment to expanding our geographic footprint and supporting the digital evolution of banks across the MEA region. By providing our expertise and end-to-end processing capabilities, we are enabling Bank NXT to scale their services effectively, while contributing to Egypt's strategic financial goals. This is a testament to our leadership and value proposition in payments modernisation and our dedication to fostering growth for our partners.”
The Systems Behind Everyday Transactions
The work concerns a layer of banking that customers rarely see directly. Network International’s explanation of issuer processing describes services provided on behalf of card-issuing institutions, including transaction authorization, cardholder account management, transaction monitoring and applicable compliance support.
In practical terms, these systems support the decisions and records behind card transactions. Network says an issuer processor connects financial institutions with payment networks and manages the issuing side of the transaction. Its wider service offering also includes settlement, dispute support and chargeback reporting.
The provider distinguishes that role from acquiring processing, which handles transactions for merchants on behalf of their acquiring banks.
Egypt’s Growing Financial Account Base
The processing migration comes as more Egyptians enter the formal financial system. In its August 6 update, the Central Bank of Egypt reported that financial inclusion reached 79% at the end of June 2026, covering 56.4 million citizens aged 15 and older out of an eligible population of 71.4 million.
The central bank’s measure includes active bank accounts, postal accounts, mobile wallets and prepaid cards.
Women’s financial inclusion stood at 72.5%, while the rate among people aged 15 to 35 reached 58%. The central bank linked the progress to initiatives aimed at widening access, including programs directed toward women, young people and underserved groups.
Earlier Projects Show a Broader Technology Program
Bank NXT’s recent technology announcements extend beyond card processing. In November 2024, it announced a partnership with Mindgate Solutions to develop an internet and mobile banking platform for corporate clients. The proposed functions covered transfers, payments, payroll, corporate card requests, check management and reporting.
That initiative addressed how businesses manage their banking activity. The Network International project focuses on processing infrastructure supporting ATMs and debit cards. The announcements show work across different parts of the bank’s operations.
A further agreement announced in June 2025 involved UiPath and BMB Egypt. Bank NXT said it aimed to introduce automation through UiPath’s platform. UiPath described the first phase as focusing on back-office operations and customer interactions, placing internal workflows alongside the bank’s other digital projects.
