HyperPay has spent more than a decade helping build the infrastructure behind Middle Eastern e-commerce.
Founded and led by Muhannad Ebwini, the Saudi-headquartered payment company provides online-payment processing and gateway services to merchants across the region. Its evolution reflects the rapid development of digital commerce itself: from a period when accepting online payments was a specialist capability to an era in which seamless digital checkout has become fundamental to almost every consumer business.
Ebwini brought considerable experience to the venture.
Before founding HyperPay, he worked across technology, e-commerce and digital payments, including roles connected with Maktoob and the early development of Souq.com, as well as senior involvement with OneCard. He now has more than 25 years of experience spanning fintech, e-commerce, gaming and online payments.
HyperPay became one of Saudi Arabia's early certified online-payment solution providers and has developed infrastructure supporting card payments and alternative payment methods for merchants.
Over time, its platform has adapted to the increasingly diverse preferences of Middle Eastern consumers. Payment gateways can no longer assume that customers will pay with one of a handful of international cards. Merchants now expect support for local debit networks, wallets, mobile payment methods and other regional options.
HyperPay was among the early gateway providers to support services such as STC Pay for Saudi merchants, demonstrating the importance of localisation within the region's payments sector.
The company's growth has attracted significant institutional investment. A $36.7 million investment round led by Mastercard, alongside Amwal Capital Partners and AB Ventures, provided both capital and strategic validation of HyperPay's position within the regional payments ecosystem.
For Ebwini, the company's relevance stems from its position at the intersection of merchant growth and financial infrastructure.
Consumers rarely think about the technology operating behind a checkout page. Yet conversion rates, fraud prevention, transaction approval, payment choice and reliability can determine whether an online business succeeds.
That makes payment infrastructure strategically important.
As Saudi Arabia and the broader GCC continue reducing dependence on cash while e-commerce, subscription services and app-based commerce expand, HyperPay's underlying market continues to grow.
Ebwini has spent much of his career anticipating that transition. HyperPay is now one of the regional companies helping provide the rails on which it runs.
