Few fintech stories capture the scale of the opportunity presented by financial inclusion quite like MNT-Halan.

Led by Founder and Chief Executive Officer Mounir Nakhla, the Egyptian-born fintech has evolved from businesses focused on mobility and microfinance into a broad financial ecosystem spanning lending, payments, cards, e-commerce and investments.

Its roots reach back through several businesses. Mashroey was established in 2009 as an asset-based finance company; Tasaheel Microfinance followed in 2015; Halan was launched in 2017; and subsequent restructuring and integration ultimately created the platform recognised today as MNT-Halan.

The company's central proposition is access.

Large sections of the population across emerging markets remain underserved by traditional financial institutions, despite having legitimate requirements for credit, payments, savings and investment. MNT-Halan has built technology and distribution specifically around those customers.

Its Halan ecosystem now incorporates consumer and business lending, prepaid cards, digital payments, e-commerce and investment products including gold and money-market funds. By 2024, the company said it served more than seven million customers, having grown more than twenty-fold from its earlier scale.

Nakhla has increasingly demonstrated that the model is exportable beyond Egypt.

MNT-Halan expanded into Türkiye through Tam Finans, into Pakistan through Halan Microfinance Bank, and into the UAE through Halan UAE. The group has subsequently continued integrating these businesses under the MNT-Halan master brand.

The latest development represents perhaps its most consequential milestone yet.

On 1 October 2026, MNT-Halan announced plans to float its Egyptian business on the Egyptian Exchange. The proposed transaction involves the sale of 320 million shares representing approximately 20% of the company, with institutional and retail participation and trading expected before the end of October subject to approvals and market conditions.

At the time of the announcement, MNT-Halan had disbursed approximately EGP 178 billion in loans, maintained a gross loan book of roughly EGP 46.7 billion, and had approximately 1.9 million active customers in its Egyptian business.

The potential listing marks an important moment not just for Nakhla's company but for the regional fintech sector.

Venture-backed companies are often celebrated for fundraising rounds and private valuations. Public markets impose a very different test: sustainable profitability, governance, transparency, capital discipline and investor confidence.

MNT-Halan's journey towards the public markets therefore signals the maturation of Middle Eastern and African fintech.

Nakhla's achievement has been to recognise that some of the world's largest financial opportunities exist not in taking market share from premium banking customers, but in building products for consumers and businesses that the traditional system has historically struggled to serve.

What began as an Egyptian financial-inclusion story is increasingly becoming an emerging-markets fintech platform with regional and international ambitions.
