Network International and Mastercard have announced a collaboration that will allow participating financial institutions, fintech companies and payment providers in Jordan to support domestic and international card-based money transfers through Mastercard Move.
The arrangement combines Network International’s payment-processing infrastructure in Jordan with Mastercard Move, a portfolio of services designed to move funds across different markets, payment methods and destination types. The companies said eligible providers would be able to connect to Mastercard Move through Network International rather than establish separate technical connections for each supported payment route.
The infrastructure can support transfers to and from payment cards, bank accounts and certain digital accounts. Transactions may include person-to-person transfers, merchant payments, business payouts, disbursements and remittances, subject to the availability and eligibility requirements of participating providers.
The collaboration is aimed at institutions already using Network International’s infrastructure or seeking access to Mastercard’s international money-movement network. In practice, the model could reduce some of the integration work required to introduce services that operate across more than one type of account or payment channel. Individual financial institutions would still need to decide which services to offer and complete the applicable technical, regulatory and compliance processes.
Faster Transfers Across Everyday Use Cases
Both companies described the supported transfers as “near real time,” rather than universally instantaneous. Transfer speeds can vary according to the receiving institution, destination market, account type, regulatory checks and operating hours.
Potential applications extend beyond conventional transfers between individuals. Network International and Mastercard identified supplier payments, gig-economy earnings, digital tipping, customer refunds and wallet top-ups among the services that could use the infrastructure. Exchange houses and fintech providers may also be able to build remittance products around the connection.
Cross-border transfers have traditionally involved several intermediaries, particularly when the sender and recipient use different account types or payment systems. A network capable of directing payments to cards, accounts and supported wallets may give providers more flexibility when building consumer or business services.
Building on Jordan’s Digital-Payment Infrastructure
The project adds to earlier work between Mastercard, Network International and Jordanian institutions. In 2023, the two companies joined the Greater Amman Municipality in an initiative to introduce an open-loop payment system for public transportation. Mastercard described it at the time as Jordan’s first transit-payment ecosystem of its kind, allowing riders to use contactless payment methods rather than relying solely on a dedicated transit card.
More recently, Mastercard has pursued several projects involving Jordan’s banks and payment companies. Those efforts include cross-border transfer arrangements, digital-wallet partnerships and online card-payment services. The latest Network International collaboration is broader in structure because it is intended to provide eligible institutions with a shared route into Mastercard Move rather than announce a single consumer product from one bank or wallet operator.
Amjad Al Sadeq, Chief Corporate Officer, Jordan & Levant, Network International, stated: “Our collaboration with Mastercard Move aims to accelerate the adoption of digital financial services and support Jordan’s transition toward a more connected economy while allowing financial institutions, fintech companies and exchange houses to modernize their infrastructure.”
Saud Swar, Mastercard’s country manager for Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan and other Levant markets, said: “Mastercard Move is designed to address the growing appetite for near-real-time digital payments across the globe. By joining forces with Network International to introduce this global platform in Jordan, we are accelerating financial innovation and contributing to economic growth in the region.”
The agreement widens the infrastructure available to Jordanian payment providers, connecting local processing capabilities with Mastercard Move’s international network. It supports a broader range of domestic and cross-border services, including person-to-person transfers, merchant payments, business payouts, disbursements and remittances, while strengthening the technological foundation for digital money movement across Jordan.
