National Bank of Kuwait is drawing renewed attention to its small and medium-sized enterprise services, combining point-of-sale financing with payments, payroll tools, business cards and account support.

The bank’s latest announcement presents the financing product as part of a broader business-banking model. Rather than announcing a new loan, the August 2026 update explains how the existing facility works alongside four subscription packages and dedicated relationship support.

NBK first announced its POS Financing service in November 2025.

Sales Activity Shapes Financing Eligibility

Eligible businesses can obtain financing ranging from approximately $32,600 to $97,700 (KD 10,000 to KD 30,000). The amount is linked to sales processed through NBK point-of-sale terminals during the previous 12 months.

Applicants must have an active NBK POS terminal and record at least approximately $162,800 (KD 50,000) in POS sales over that period. Completed applications can be processed within five business days, provided the required documents are submitted accurately, the company statement said. Financing remains subject to the bank’s assessment and approval.

Businesses may use the funds to open additional locations, purchase equipment and fixtures, build inventory, manage cash flow or cover operating expenses. The structure allows a company’s recorded card sales to form part of its financing assessment, connecting payment activity with access to credit.

Four Packages Serve Different Transaction Levels

Beyond financing, NBK organizes its business-banking services into Basic, Bronze, Silver and Gold subscription packages. Each tier is tied to a range of monthly debit- and credit-card sales and provides a different level of access to POS terminals, payroll services and transfers.

The NBK Business Banking Plus page lists the Basic package for companies processing less than approximately $9,800 (KD 3,000) in monthly POS transactions. Bronze covers about $9,800 to $32,600 (KD 3,000 to KD 10,000), while Silver is designed for volumes between approximately $32,600 and $97,700 (KD 10,000 to KD 30,000). Gold covers monthly POS activity from roughly $97,700 to $162,800 (KD 30,000 to KD 50,000).

Service limits rise with each level. Basic supports up to two POS terminals and payroll processing for five employees. Bronze increases those limits to four terminals and 10 employees, while Silver provides up to eight terminals and payroll capacity for 25 employees. Gold offers as many as 12 terminals and salary processing for up to 50 employees.

Monthly subscription prices are approximately $163 (KD 50) for Basic, $472 (KD 145) for Bronze, $1,628 (KD 500) for Silver and $3,256 (KD 1,000) for Gold. Each tier includes access to corporate credit or prepaid cards, while Silver and Gold provide specified allowances for online transfers to local banks. The Gold package also includes account and concierge services.

Payments and Banking Move Closer Together

NBK’s model reflects the increasingly close relationship between payment acceptance and small-business finance. A bank handling a company’s daily card transactions can observe the volume and continuity of those sales, giving it additional information when considering a financing application.

Transaction data does not eliminate credit risk. Sales can fluctuate because of seasonal demand, changes in consumer spending or business-specific pressures, while historical payment volumes cannot guarantee future revenue. Prospective borrowers would still need to examine financing costs and repayment terms alongside their expected cash flow.

The package structure also gives NBK more ways to serve businesses as their transaction volumes and staffing requirements change. Payment terminals, payroll processing, transfers and cards can be scaled within the same banking relationship, although companies must weigh that convenience against monthly subscription expenses and the terms available from competing providers.

Dedicated relationship officers act as the main contact between business clients and the bank, according to NBK. The official product page says those officers can coordinate with specialists in treasury, investment banking, credit and trade finance. The recent release says support is available throughout different stages of a company’s development, though it does not publish performance data showing how many SMEs currently use the packages or financing facility.

Existing Product Receives a Broader Push

NBK originally described the POS facility as Kuwait’s first financing product of its kind for SMEs when it was unveiled in November 2025.

Bader Al-Ansari, NBK’s business banking sales and acquisition manager, said: “We are proud to be the first bank in Kuwait to introduce a financing solution that is directly linked to business performance. This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering SMEs with smart, accessible financial tools that drive growth and strengthen Kuwait’s economy.”

The August 2026 update places less emphasis on the original launch and more on how the facility fits into NBK’s larger business-banking operation. Its current news value lies in the bank’s renewed SME focus and detailed presentation of the services surrounding POS financing, rather than the introduction of a new lending product.
